The main goal of my thesis was to define the meaning of a "sketch". The process of finding an answer to this included interviews with my old and current design professors, workshops with fellow design students, conducting online surveys and doing extensive online and book research.
With this information I was able to create a booklet with the results. While this project was for my Graphic Design major, I still wanted the visual of my final project to resemble a combination of hand drawn and digital. I look back now and wish I added more of a grid to the book, however I think the messiness of it adds to the concept of figuring out what a sketch means to different people.
What I found was that a sketch means something different to every designer - whether it be a simple doodle on a napkin or a detailed digital illustration. So to answer the question my thesis asks, the basic idea of a sketch it is to get your internal thoughts out of your head and into the world!
